Ordering Strategy

The menu is scrawled on blackboards and changes daily. Order 3-4 small plates per person to share, and definitely start with the sourdough and butter.

What to order

Safe first

Spring vegetable fritters, isot chilli yoghurt & preserved lemon

Fabulous brittle, crunchy batter...strips of preserved lemon provide both tart acidity and salty tanginess and a dollop of yoghurt topped with a dusting of isot chilli provides a lick of smoky spiciness. Reviewer was 'grateful' for the waiter's suggestion.

Hungry

Chargrilled beef with hen of the woods mushroom and lentils

The beef was one of the cheaper cuts, full of flavour and reasonably chewy but done just nicely: seared edge and dark pink inside. The lentils made a good background...All very heart-warming.

Wildcard

Courgette agrodolce, burrata, golden raisins & hazelnut

The dish’s real star is the slow roasted, yellow courgette with an agrodolce sauce, supported by plump golden raisins and chopped hazelnut. The bread gets a hammering with the creamy burrata innards combining with the sweet and sour sauce

Good to know

The space is notoriously cramped (expect to touch elbows with neighbors), and a vinyl record player provides the soundtrack. It operates largely on a walk-in basis for dinner.
